Tickets are $20.00 and are available at Offshore Music, located at 926 Soquel Ave. in Santa Cruz; also on-line at www.stillfumin.com.The inspiration for the Decemberchild celebration began with Tom Savell’s own experience as a child. His birthday within a week of Christmas, Tom recalls, "I remember one year getting no birthday party/cake, and "combination" Christmas/birthday gifts. I wanted my birthday to be as far away from Christmas as possible." After discovering how many others share his experience, Tom and his brothers created Decemberchild as a birthday party for all whose special days are overshadowed by the holidays. But for Tom and his brothers, the true reward is giving to others even less fortunate. "We want to do something for kids who have more worries than having a birthday near Christmas." Founded in 2001, Children’s Hospice and Palliative Care Coalition is leading the way to bring about lasting, fundamental change in California’s treatment of seriously ill children and their families by addressing gaps in services at the state and local levels. Statewide, CHPCC’s efforts are improving children’s access to compassionate, family-centered care at home. Locally, CHPCC is providing children in the tri-county area with safe, reliable transportation to medical treatment; last year alone CHPCC clocked more than 60,000 miles and over 400 roundtrips. The Decemberchild Benefit Concert together with Superior Olive hopes to provide support for CHPCC to continue this caring work of love and compassion. The crowd pleasing pop rock band Superior Olive has been wowing audiences up and down the West Coast, building a following that reaches from the Pacific Northwest down to San Diego, and selling CDs around the world from Japan to Austria. Combining danceable pop and progressive rock, Superior Olive draws in audiences of all ages with their unique blend of modern and classical influences reminiscent of The Moody Blues, Pink Floyd, Rush, Genesis, and Tchaikovsky. The band is fronted by nationally acclaimed New Artist of the Year 2008 Tom Savell, known for his emotional vocals and mid-song changes from rocking guitar to soaring violin solos. Virtuoso violinist and front man David LaFlamme along with his wife Linda LaFlamme form the core of It’s A Beautiful Day, best known for their classic hit single "White Bird." It's A Beautiful Day, whose self-titled debut album was laced with favorites like "Hot Summer Day," "Girl With No Eyes," and "White Bird," was one of the earliest and most important San Francisco bands to emerge from the 1967 Summer of Love, headlining at the Fillmore West before recording their first album. Performing together on stage, audiences have always been delighted with dual violin solos by Tom Savell and David LaFlamme. With the planned lineup this year, there will be even more opportunity for interesting and spontaneous violin interplay to thrill the party-goers.
