Regarding the "Keep guns, dump abortions," letter, the pro-"life" movement (controlled by men) encourages abortion by restricting women's access to birth control which prevents conception. The economic agenda of government and religion (controlled by men) is using women as incubators for endless production of consumers, soldiers, cheap workers and more breeders (overpopulation). Forced insemination of factory-farmed animals comes to mind.
Mass-media (controlled by men) worships women who pump out litters. However, women choosing to enjoy child-free lives are cast as "selfish" because they had the audacity to refuse the male mandate to breed. Our government ignores the right-to-life of 216-month-old ex-fetuses (soldiers). War also "stops a beating heart." Since the military (controlled by men) kills ex-fetuses, the decision whether or not to bear future murder victims belongs to women. Men started the wars that killed hundreds of millions in this century alone.
"Who would fight the wars? Who would make the policemen, the jailers, if women were to refuse the indiscriminate breeding of children?" said Emma Goldman, arrested for promoting contraception (not abortion) in 1917.
ELAINE CHARKOWSKI
SANTA CRUZ
Elaine Charkowski seems obsessed by a paranoid delusion of a mass conspiracy of men against women to force them to breed and become "incubators for endless production of consumers, soldiers, cheap workers and more breeders." Unlike the world in her dark, Orwellian fantasy, most women that have children want to have children.
She also states that the mass media "worships women who pump out litters," yet the women who are most glamorized are young, thin, and beautiful, and are unlikely to have had any children at all, much less to have "pumped out a litter." And I have never heard of a woman being "cast as selfish" for choosing a childfree life.
Whereas I'm not against abortion, I'm also not against women. Nor am I against men. We are all people. To target a population based upon gender is no different than discriminating based upon race. She has clearly stated her anger and prejudice against all men.
Does she feel this way towards her father, without whom she would not exist? I love both my mother and my father.

Did you know that there are about 400,000 eggs in a woman's ovaries at birth, but only 200 to 400 are used during her lifetime?
Men, however, produce sperm continually from puberty onward and they never stop. In fact, a fertile man produces up to 600,000 sperm per teaspoonful of semen (less than 200,000 per teaspoon is considered sterile).
